Yamaha YSP 1100BL Digital Sound Projector
November 30, 2009 by admin · Leave a Comment

As amazing as it seems, the YSP-1100 can actually deliver multi-channel sound that surrounds listeners the same way that sound from front, center and rear speakers does. DVD movies and other digital sources sound just the way they are supposed to. Dolby Pro Logic II is included, so even 2-channel TV sound can be heard in glorious multi-channel surround. Remember, this is true surround sound, not virtual surround, which can cause listening fatigue. The YSP-1100 contains 42 digital amplifiers to power 42 sound drivers, delivering remarkable multi-channel enjoyment from a single, elegant component.Setting up the Yamaha Digital Sound Projector is much easier than a conventional home theater system because multiple speakers and extra wiring are eliminated. Installation of this system is so versatile that you can place it next to, or on top of, your video display… or if you have a wall mounted flat panel video display you can use the optional wall-mount bracket to place it securely on the wall. No matter if your room is square or rectangular, or if you have to place your Digital Sound Projector in a corner or another part of the room, the system is flexible enough for virtually any room configuration. It’s not just about how it sounds… it’s also about style, and how well it complements a wall or stand-mounted plasma, LCD or rear-projection video display. With slim, contemporary design, it becomes an elegant statement of the latest in home theater technology. And, since it can be used as an on-wall system, you can take the Digital Sound Projector with you if you move! The YSP-1100 supports IR signal transmission for the convenient operation of other components. The YSP-1100 can be controlled by an IR signal sent through the Remote In terminal. The IR signal received by the Remote Control Sensor on the front panel is directly output through the IR OUT terminal. It is also provided with an RS-232C interface for a touch-panel controller.

4 Stars Works great and less filling!
This is a great product! It performs as advertised and I am very pleased with my purchase. It is a great improvement over my standard TV speakers. Having said that, it’s performance is definitely enhanced by being hooked up to my existing subwoofer. And be sure, if you already have a great surround sound system, this product will not produce sound of quality as good. It will however, remove the clutter of the many wires and speaker space needed in your room. And only ONE controller for the TV, Speaker and DVD player. All in all, a great tradeoff! And oh, by the way, Amazon’s price was so much cheaper than any place else, don’t bother looking anywhere else! Larry
5 Stars Great sound for the living room.
While not as impressive as the surround sound room upstairs, it makes an excellent compliment to any TV (46″ Sony XBR Bravia in this case) in a room that you do not wish to fill with speakers. Add a sub-woofer, and the sound is excellent! I would also suggest wiring the sound from your satellite, DVD/Blu-ray directly to the sound bar as I noticed the sound slightly out of sync with the TV if you run it from the satellite and/or Blu-ray/DVD through the TV and then to the soundbar. I could not justify paying retail price for this soundbar, but at $430 I feel it’s a bargain and well worth the money.
4 Stars Great in the correct Area
I really like this sound system in my room. The surround function works well when I have all my doors and drapes closed. The My Beam function is very useful because I like to play the TV loud and not bother the other people in the house. I also use the steady sound mode so the volume stays pretty consistent from channel to channel. I will only be able to use this in my room because the other rooms in the house, like the living room are not shaped in a way that would allow it to work.
5 Stars Sounds great!!
Very easy to set up, sounds great!. I have 10′ ceilings and an “L” shaped room. I did not want to go to all the trouble of installing tradional speakers. I am please with this product!
5 Stars Tech Geek loves this technology
I was able to get this when it was sub $500 & free shipping.
It has turned out to be a great investment & performs as advertised & reviewed here by others.
I am a tech geek & justify with my wife that I have to buy these kinds of products to be up to date within the tech job I have.
I am also a hard critic of bold claims on audio that rely on algorythms & equations to produce faux effects.
This unit comes through. Mostly because it has hardware to support its fancy software. 40 tweeters! You have to get your own subwoofer to go with it, but thats acceptable.
The set up is easy with the included microphone.
The audio is all kinds of fun to play with the options.
For movies & digital TV I go with 5 beam.
For regular shows 3 beam.
For music usually Stereo cranked up.
I am an almost audiophile & I marvel at this. My wife is tired of me saying to her “wow, did you hear that sound come from the behind us” while sitting in bed.
Key Points:
- You MUST get a sub. the base is average to not good without it.
- You MUST have a square 4 wall room & configuration. Otherwise the magic doesnt work as it cant bounce the sounds properly.
- You probably want to do BOTH auto & manual set up for fine tuning. I found this key when working settings to overcome curtains on my right wall that were in the path of the beams (I was able to adjust around that).

2 Stars Fine for talk, tinny sounding for music
I use these mostly to listen to podcasts, so they work great for that. But if you are an audiophile, you will be as sorely dissapointed as I was in the sound. Very tinny and poor bass response. I have a pair of Advent wireless speakers that sound MUCH better with music; however, I haven’t tried them with my computer as the transmitter accepts only analog input. The Audio Unlimited speakers were easy to set up with the computer and worked right out of the box. And yes, the remote won’t work after ten minutes even if the units are on AC power. Dumb design if you are putting them out of reach. If they had named them Audio Limited, that would have been more accurate.
3 Stars meh.
Sure they work, but they sound like cheap plastic speakers. Talk radio sounds fine, music sounds like a bad car radio. Lower volume works best, too. Anything cranked sounds bad. I also agree with other reviews who say it makes no sense to mount these speakers too high, unless they’re plugged into a power source with an on/off switch. Otherwise, using just the remote puts them in standby mode which still draws power.
2 Stars Beware
Purchased to use with TV. Quickly found out that the volumn on the TV needed to be above 50% full volumn before the transmitter would stay activated and transmit to the speakers. Even when transmitter was active the range of the volumn control for the speakers is very limited.
2 Stars Not Worth The Investment… AT ALL
I ordered these speakers to clean up my living area. I was hoping for speakers that would sound good at a decent volume, these are not it.
If you plug them in to an IPOD or computer dont turn up the volume too high or all you hear is static. Also you cant place the speakers farther than about 50 feet away from the transmitter regardless of how high you have the volume again all you hear is static, even in an open room our outdoors. Sound however, with the volume at a low level does sound decent for wireless speakers but still not worth the $100 pricetag.
The remote is absolutely worthless. These speakers run off either 6 C-Cell batteries EACH or can be plugged in. With the Speakers not plugged in, getting the whole “wireless” effect, the remote will not turn on or off both speakers, at all, you have to manually go to each one and hit the power button to switch them on or off. Unfortunetlly i havent wanted to use these speakers long enough to test out how long the batteries really last.
The only reasons this product gets two stars is for the sound quality at a low volume and a short distance away from the transmitter, and for the Indoor/Outdoor usage. The speakers have a weird look to them as well. When displayed you really dont know what they are unless sound is coming out of them. Im still not quite sure if thats a good thing or a bad thing yet.
Bottom line… i would highly recommend not getting these speakers and stick with Wired speakers for now. It would be a waste of money to even try these out.
5 Stars Good for the elderly
Don’t tell my mom what the title for this is. I bought them for her birthday and she was able to hook them up and get them working. She wanted them to have speakers closer to where she sits and wateches TV. The less complicated for her the better and these fit the bill. She only has a TV and cable box. They plugged into the RCA jacks in the back and she hasn’t had any trouble with them.

4 Stars Satisfied for the price
It’s no Bose but it gets the job done. We have a relatively large and it sounds just fine. It’s pretty easy to use also. I am very satisfiedwith the purchase.
3 Stars Some good, some bad
I wanted an ipod/CD clock radio to replace my old CD-only clock radio and after doing some research, I purchased the iSymphony CR8CD. There’s some very good things to note, and some bad.
The good: I don’t have to convert all my CDs to digital files since this is also a CD player. I love the gradual wake up feature where it starts out soft and gets lounder in increments instead of jolting me awake. I also like how you can set the volume of the alarm separate from the general volume. Sound quality is pretty good also, and the remote is handy and performs every function.
The bad: Unfortunately I can’t use this for what I bought it for… I wanted to use the sleep function to listen to nature sounds to fall asleep to, but there is a buzz when listening to the ipod on a low volume level. It’s like listening to crickets under a buzzing neon sign. So it’s useless for trying to fall asleep to something playing softly on the ipod. The CD player does not do this — only the iPod player does.
In addition, the display is like an airport beacon in the middle of the night. I had to purchase some colored plastic folders at an office supply store, cut them, and tape them over the display (also cutting out a hole for the remote beam) so the brightness of the display would be toned down.
It also doesn’t not have a daylight savings button like my old clock radio. Not a biggie, but it was a handy feature.
It just seems impossible to find a clock radio with it all… the ability to listen to soft music without a buzz, a choice of brightness settings, good sound quality, a lots of features.
This model isn’t bad and I’ll be keeping it because I do like the good parts enough to overlook the bad. Perhaps I’ll try again in another 5 years.
3 Stars Good - But could of been better
Seems to be a good quality box. Missing one crucial thing for non ipod users, an auxilary input line. You cannot play music from your mp3 player through this. Check out the Emerson box which is slightly cheaper, perhaps not as fancy, but has this feature.
5 Stars A terrific buy at a great price
Sony ICF-CD815 AM/FM Stereo CD Clock Radio with Dual Alarm This is an excellent radio/CD player .It is easy to set up,easy to use and delivers great sound from a small unit. And the price is easy to take.
I had tried another brand that cost considerably more and wasn’t half as good. This was a very good choice.

4 Stars Great gadget, Great price
Pretty sweet. Had a little issue with initial hookup like it has to be plugged in before car is on or something. It also continues to use power when not in use. There is a fan that runs on it which is not loud enough to be annoying, but would be better without it. A little large compared to others so may need mounting.
1 Star Get what you pay for (sold also at walmart)
This only lasted about a month and then the 12v section fell apart! i have since tried to contact manufacture and they will not uphold warrenty. so it is in the DUMP….. DONT WASTE YOUR TIME OR MONEY invest in something Better
1 Star Poor quality.
I could not believe how people find this one a good quality product. I got it and almost could not hear my music. A lot of noise in the background. The fan is too loud. Not recommended.
5 Stars Power Inverter with More!
I wanted a device that I could carry in my laptop bag - this one is very light and I’m impressed at how tightly engineered it is… it’s very thin and overall compact for an inverter. Maybe someone would complain that it doesn’t feel sturdy - it’s so light - but that’s a big selling point compared to the brick I had before. The USB port is a great feature, too, allowing me to keep my phone charged when I’m using it in GPS mode. Or I can power my iPod - the FM transmitter performed well when I tried it. Pricewise, it’s hard to beat this since it combines an FM transmitter for an MP3 player and power for both an AC device and a USB device - I’ve seen units that do just one of those for more!
4 Stars Works great/ loud fan
It arrived very quickly, and I was able to try it out on a business trip the day after I received it. I had several hours to drive and wanted to listen to my MP3 player. The rf transmitter worked really well and later when I needed to charge my laptop the inverter worked just fine.
One minor htich though. When I tried plugging in my Blackberry it didn’t seem to want to charge. I plugged the BB into a USB port on my laptop and it charged just fine so the problem must be with the usb charger on the inverter. I haven’t had time to try and solve that problem yet, and since the other features work fine I may not worry about it.
Also, I find the cooling fan to be pretty loud, but not so loud that I wouldn’t keep using it.
We are gonna give it a real test on a road-trip from St Louis to California this summer, so I will have to update this after that.
