The Sony DAV-HDX275 BRAVIA Theater System includes an integrated 5 DVD / CD changer, 1000 watts of home theater power, and an included iPod dock. Using exclusive Sony technology, S-AIR brings the promise of multi room audio distribution that most anyone can set-up, it’s that easy. DAV-HDX275 comes equipped with Digital Media Port that works with various accessories (sold separately). The DAVHDX275 can control a select number of BRAVIA televisions with BRAVIA Sync via the HDMI interface. With “One Touch Play,” operations that took several steps have been reduced to one. Also, HDMI interface upscales DVD media up to 1080p. This BRAVIA System optimizes speaker placement in just 30 seconds with Digital Cinema Auto Calibration.

User Ratings and Reviews

2 Stars disappointing
the sound quality from this system is decent though not as good as the Panasonic system it replaced. My biggest complaint is the region code problem. Mine won’t even play a dvd that has no region code on it, and there is apparently no way to fix it via the remote which I’ve heard is possible with other players.

I watch concert dvds as often as movies and I now own 3 concert dvds that won’t play on this system simply because the bands are not from the United States.

3 Stars They left out key features
Overall I enjoy the sound system. Excellent sound quality but there is no way to control the levels such as treble and bass. Any cheap boom-box has controls for sound levels, but Sony left them out! The base is never loud enough and I can’t turn it up. They do have different settings such as music mode or movie mode but the difference is hardly noticeable.

5 Stars OUTSTANDING surround system at a bargain price!
First let me say that I am very picky, I have an ear for good sound versus bad and I was concerned that at the cheap price of the Bravia 275 I was not going to get a really great system. But after reading these reviews I took a chance and I am glad I did! This system has an entry-level price, but it sounds like an upper-level system. It blows away our 10+ year-old surround/ stereo system that cost us [...] bucks. We have it set up in our 20′ x 20′ living room with 10′ ceiling and it fills the entire room with rich sound. I and my family all agree that it sounds just like sitting in a movie theater. The surround effects are incredible with distinct sound coming from all speakers. We will often be sitting there watching a movie and hear a sound coming from one or both of the rear speakers that makes us turn around to see what happened, only to realize it was just a movie sound :-) The subwoofer really booms, when the sound is turned up you can feel the sound almost as much as hearing it. I don’t imagine apartment dwellers with this system would be too popular with their neighbors!

The DVD player works very good, I bought the system specifically for the surround sound but the DVD player upscales DVDs to 1080 resolution as well as my PS3 does. For some reason it won’t upscale properly on my TV to 1080p, the TV picture keeps blinking on and off. But it works fine on 1080i and looks great. Some DVDs (two examples are Pirates of the Caribbean and Wall-E) look nearly as good when upscaled as Blu Ray.

Adjusting settings (such as output resolution and speaker sound level tuning) through the on-screen menu is a little fussy, but once it’s set you won’t have to mess with it again.

We have a 52″ Bravia TV and the “Bravia sync” feature works great! I can control the Bravia’s DVD player basic functions from the TV remote, and if I power on/ off the TV the surround system does the same. Also if the surround speakers are enabled then the TV speakers are disabled, and vice versa (this is switched through the TV menu via the remote). I have a PS3 and play Blu Ray movies through it as well as playing games on it. If you plan on doing the same, you have to run an optical cable from the PS3 to the surround system (optical to the surround for the sound, HDMI to the TV for the images; be sure to switch the sound on your PS3 to output on optical). If you hook it up via the HDMI cable then you’ll get stereo, but not surround. By the way, you gamers have not lived until you’ve played a PS3 game in full surround, it’s awesome!

As others have mentioned the input/ output ports on this system are very limited, if you have more than one peripheral then you’ll need to invest in a switch box, swap cables constantly or look at other systems. I used the optical input for the PS3 and the component input for the cable box, so cable TV plays in stereo, but not surround (wasn’t a big deal to me). If that limitation is something that you can live with then you can’t go wrong with this setup.

4 Stars Nice sound system for HD for the price
This is a sweet sound system for the money!

Easy set up! Great speakers. Good sound! Only one draw back as I see it.

I could NOT get my remote from the cable provider to turn it on or off. Even though the remote provided by the cable company has readable code capabilites.

The universal codes for Sony DVDs provided by the comcast cable company did NOT work,I contacted support at sonys web site to no avail, the online tec repeated the same information that was on the support page? Sony does NOT have support for non sony maufacture remotes.

I guess if you loose or break your Sony remote you HAVE TO PURCHASE a new remote from Sony. Most likley the reason for NO universal code.

other then that it is a nice home theater system for the price!

3 Stars Sony Bravia 275 Home Theater- Something missing…
When finally wired up it sounds terrific for a small, inexpensive “Home Theater”. I bought it primarily for the audio features since we do not watch many DVD’s. The reason I did not give it a better rating was that I was told (in an electronics store) that an “attachment” was available to make the surround sound speakers “wireless”. WhenI was ready to buy the”attachment” I was told it would not work on this Sony because the speaker connections had special connectors. After completing the wiring, (which was a pain), the unit sounds great.
