5 Stars Very Pleased
Wasn’t sure I was going to be pleased with this system or not, after a few weeks just love it. Great system- just the right amount of inputs, nice easy setup, nice sound, and huge bang for the buck (payed $320), only complant I have is that the included DVD player when using a HDMI cable, needs a digital audio cable (either coax or optical) - seems stupid since HDMI carries digital audio. but not a huge deal

Sony HT7100DH Component Home Theater System with HDMI
Item was selected based on Consumer Reports reviews. Amazon offered it through a third party, the price was right and it was purchased. Delivery was timely and, although more work than anticipated, installation to the point of testing components shows great performance. Nice, compact package for our 1950-something sized living room.
4 Stars good sound
it sounds great. it’s not Bose, but it also doesn’t COST as much as Bose. Great for a medium sized room. DVD player is a little clunky, and i’m not a fan of 5-disc players, but it’s what came with it. Oh well.
I’m sure there are better out there, but if you’re on a budget, this one is def a good contender.
2 Stars Problems with hdmi input
Receiver had something loose rattling around inside. Opened and found broken piece off plastic housing. Did not effect perfomance, or so I thought. Some months later one of the hdmi inputs became intermittent. Not too happy with tiny center channel speaker. Replaced with a larger Sony speaker after a couple of weeks. Overall not very happy so I bought a Yamaha 5.1 receiver, also with hdmi pass through, and just kept the Sony speakers. Yamaha definitely sounds better.
3 Stars Good system for a small room!
I’ve had this system for about two months now and am pretty satisfied with it. Setting up the speakers was a pain in the ??? though. Connecting my HDTV,dish network box and DVD player(now a PanasonicBD35)was a little frustrating because I didn’t realize you needed a optical digital cable to get any sound eventhough I connected my componets with HDMI cables. If your planning on getting a Blue Ray DVD player you might want to get a higher end receiver, so you can really get the theatre surrsound. Even with these little problems this system puts out good surround sound for a small area. The auto calculation feature works well for those of us who are not “audiophiles”. So if you’er looking for system that puts out good sound for the price and can be easy to setup if you already know the pit falls then this is the system for you.

5 Stars Circuit City Clearance
I just bought these set of speakers on clearance at my local Circuit City for only $100. They only had 1 set in stock. I imagine the clearance price would be all throughout Circuit City, but who knows. Good luck if you do find them.
5 Stars Serious Bang for the Buck
I am a home theater guru. Due to the fact that I have two young children at home, a more conventional tower style speaker system is not practical right now; tower style speakers are more vulnerable to damage and being knocked over (among other things). In redoing my home theater over the past several months, obtaining various pieces along the way, the Sony SA-FT1H flat panel speaker system was found to be the perfect match for my setup. They are fairly compact and slim, yet they manage to produce a fantastic sound. They are easily wall-mountable, which was key for my application (so I could keep them out of harm’s way).
The system fills my living room with sound quite nicely. I’ve got a mid-sized room with typical 8ft. ceilings. The front speakers house a woofer and tweeter for a very well-rounded sound, while the center channel speaker has two woofers and one tweeter to really pump out the vocal tracks. The rear speakers are a basic one-woofer setup and do a good job of producing the surround sound. The self-powered subwoofer is fantastic in producing thick and punchy bass; its slim design is something of an engineering marvel. As far as all-in-one-systems go, you’re probably not going to find too many better subs than the one in this package — at any price point.
One thing about the sub that might annoy some is the auto on/off switch. This is designed to save energy (and life) by powering off the sub when little or no signal is being sent to it. I found it kind of annoying to use the auto switch because you can really hear the sub’s power supply click when it turns off and on, so I set mine to be on all the time. Plus even if there’s a small amount of signal going to the sub, it’s best to have it audible than not — at least in my opinion.
Speaking of price, this system was purchased from Amazon for an amazingly low cost. I was able to buy this for around $150 total with shipping. This is normally a nearly $500 item. It is probably worth every bit of $300 or $350, but $500 might be a bit of a stretch. At any rate, I’m glad I paid what I did for this set. I imagine this will hold me over for at least four or five years until I can get something a little more “serious” for my setup.
I rated this a 5/5 in a sort of “relative” rating. For something that cost $150, this has more than exceeded my expectations. You simply cannot go wrong with this setup, especially if you’re on any sort of budget.
2 Stars Weak Center Speaker
While the other speakers and sub woofer are fine, the center speaker is simply too weak and after a little use began crackling at times. Unfortunately, the center speaker is where most of the dialogue in movies comes from, so if it’s weak the rest of your surround speakers don’t matter too much. I returned this item as a result and upgraded to some nice Harmon Kardon speakers that cost twice as much but are worth it.
Also, one other thing that wasn’t a big deal but was a bit annoying was the auto on/off with the sub-woofer. It worked fine, but when it turned on and off it would make a loud clicking noise, usually at the beginning of a movie once the low frequency clicked in. Not a big deal, but worth mentioning.
4 Stars Great System
I like this product a lot, it sounds great, especially for the price. I have no compants at all. The speaers are very small and can be hidden in a room not to mention it goes great with a flat screen tv.
5 Stars Sony Speakers, 5.1
Speakers were exactly as described by the website. Setup was easy, regardless of the very unclear and unhelpful instruction booklet that came with the product.
